Why do some seemingly simple jobs take forever?
Karen's been moaning ever since we moved into our cottage
last year that she hasn't got anywhere to dry or air the
washing.
It rains a lot in Wales :)
So being a "Mr. Fix-it" kinda guy, I decided to resolve
the problem (and stop the nagging :) by moving a radiator
from the family room to the inside of a large shelving
cupboard to form an airing cupboard.
That was Tuesday ... and I've had my head inside the
cupboard every since.
The moving and plumbing in of the radiator wasn't the
problem, it was trying to get water through the pipes
to the rad that had me stumped.
I tried draining the boiler system completely to no
avail. I tried different sizes of pipe to no avail.
After three days and two sleepless nights I had a
brain wave!
A pump was called for (no our boiler system didn't
have any form of pump installed it was all done with
gravity of some sort)
To sum up ...
Pump idea worked and Karen thinks I'm wonderful again :)
Until next time

Checklist For Your Website Design
By Simon Baxter
--------------------------------------------------
The most important elements when designing a web
site are ...
Usability and Aesthetic Design!
And these are probably two of the hardest things
to get write.
Don't despair ....
Using the following checklist, will make sure that
you have covered the essentials in web design and
visitor usability.
1. Select a style, font, font size and color and
keep it consistent throughout your whole web site.
There is nothing worse (in my opinion) in visiting
a web site whose designer just couldn't make up
his mind.
The home page consists of one page design, the other
pages something totally different.
Headlines in a multitude of colors throughout and
as for the font type, he must of gone through
every single design kept on his hard disk.
He may have a great product or service to sell, but
that is something I will never know as this site
has fast become ....
An instant turn off and sure to make me click away
to somewhere more pleasing to the eye.
So for goodness sake, keep everything nice, simple
and consistent!
If you must choose different colors for your type,
keep it to two or three at the most, such as one
for the main text, another for your main headings
and another (if you must:) for your sub headings.
2. Navigation systems should be easy enough for a
ten year old to follow and certainly not requiring
a degree in rocket science.
I have lost count of the times I have visited a
site that seems to consist of only one page (the
home page), where the heck the links are to the
other pages is certainly not evident on the home
page.
So again another lost sale, I'm off to another
easier to navigate website.
When designing a site, you should always use a
navigation system in nice tidy levels and always,
always link to your main home page from EVERY page
in your site.
3. Remembering the fact that there are other browsers
out there apart from Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Check your site using various browsers for example:
Netscape
Opera
Aol
While you are at it, also check viewing in different
screen sizes and screen resolutions.
It is a know fact that some sites lose over 30% of
their visitors due to their site only being viewable
in Internet Explorer.
You need to make use of every bit of traffic you
generate, so make sure everyone who does visit can
enjoy what you have created.
4. Open ALL external links in a new browser window.
I am sure that some of its laziness, but to send
your traffic over to another site is pure madness,
however I visit sites every day that do just that.
Include the following in the HTML code for every
external link on your site:
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.externalsite.com">
Click here</>
5. Make sure that you underline every link on your site
and using a different color is also a good idea.
If you are selling affiliate products and services
from your site, you want to make the links to your
affiliate items obvious ... Don't you?
6. If you must have graphics on your site, keep it
to the minimum and OPTIMIZE every image using the
following tips:
Reduce the image size ... Keep it as small as possible
and remove any white space from around the image.
Reduce the number of colors from 16 bit to 8 bit.
You will be surprised at how little difference in
quality this makes, but just look at the file size
of the image, now that's a big difference!
7. Include every piece of contact information that
you can. It's absolutely no good just including an
email address at your site as a way to contact you.
You must have your full name, business name, full
postal address, telephone and fax number plus the
times which your visitors can reach you.
Another good idea is to use an online instant contact
program like "Human Click", it's a real winner when
someone is at your site, has a question and can talk
to someone at the click of a button ... Quite often
this results in an instant sale.
Try it and I think you will be pleasantly surprised:)
If you follow the above tips, you should find yourself
with a winning web site that won't put people off.
Now all you need to do is perfect your sales copy:)
Until next time

5) THIS WEEKS GUEST ARTICLE
"Would'a, Could'a, Should'a!"
by Jeff McCall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a song I've heard playing on the radio a lot
lately. It's called "Would'a, Could'a, Should'a" and is
sung by a most excellent soul singer called Beverley
Knight.
The last line of the chorus goes something like...
"Would'a, could'a, should'a are the last words of a
fool!"
That's a sentiment I agree with entirely! I promised
myself a long time ago that when I get to the point of
having one foot in the grave with the other following
swiftly, I wouldn't regret not having tried or achieved
anything specific in my life.
Would I have succeeded at ......?
Could I have been good at ......?
Should I have tried my hand at ......?
Trust me, these are three questions I won't be asking
myself in my dying breath.
Why? Because if I ever get an inkling or a desire to
try something new, I get up and go for it! The more
radical it is the more motivated I become.
If I were to sit down and write down everything I've
done this far in my life that Mr. Average most probably
hasn't, it would be a very long list. I'm telling you
this not to try and impress you, but to make the point
that you don't know what you can achieve until you try.
Some of the things I've tried have provoked incredulous
responses from others. Some people think I'm just plain
crazy. But hey, I wouldn't swap my life experiences
with theirs in a million years. When I look back upon
my life I know I'll have lived every second of it.
"Life ain't no rehearsal" as they say.
I recently caught the end of an interview with Anthony
Robbins on TV. The interviewer was asking Tony how he
made decisions on what path to take in his own life. He
referred to a test he uses, which he called "The
Rocking Chair Test". He apparently applies this test
whenever he needs to make a "Yes" or "No" decision
about a new opportunity that presents itself to him.
To apply the test, he imagines himself in his eighties
sitting in a rocking-chair and looking back over his
life. He then considers whether he'd regret saying "No"
rather than "Yes" to a particular opportunity.
At the end of the interview Tony emphasised an
important point - You don't receive or achieve much in
your life whenever you say "No!"
So stop saying "No" and start saying "Yes!"
Do you have a burning desire to try something new? If
you do, then go right out and do it!
Won't it be great? Trust me, it will be better than you
can imagine!
If you follow this approach you'll truly surprise
yourself every day. You'll learn so much more about
yourself. Why? Because you'll be provoking reactions,
thoughts and feelings that you never would have had
otherwise.
There are some amazing things waiting to be discovered
only by you, but only if you go looking for them.
Remember, "life ain't no rehearsal!" So make the most
of the precious time you have on this earth. You owe it
to yourself!
Don't be the fool whose last words are "would'a,
could'a, should'a!"
Be successful!
7) THIS WEEKS Step By Step ARTICLE
Organizing Tactics for Email Overload
by Karen Baxter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Email can almost be as bad as ordinary office
paperwork, with hundreds of saved emails in tens
of different email accounts and proving absolutely
useless when you suddenly need to find that email
with the unlock code for a software program that
you have had to re download because of a system crash.
When you email the Software Company for another unlock
code they make you feel at the worst a criminal "Are
YOU sure that you are using this software for your own
personal use only" and at the very least stupid "Didn't
you back up your computer or save the email?"
I know ... We've been there :)
There is a way round this problem, by organizing your
emails and email accounts using your computer and a
set of 'floppies', or zip drive or CD data disks.
Whichever you prefer!
I am a bit of an organizing freak and this week I will
show you how I organize our email and email accounts
(I can't say that Simon follows these instructions,
he is one of the most disorganized people you are ever
likely to meet:)
His answer to working in a completely disorganized mess
is ...
"It shows mind of a highly intelligent person, we are
too busy being creative to have time to file a piece of
paper"
This doesn't say a lot for my intelligence :)
"Organizing Tactics for Email Overload"
The first thing you need to do is find out what type
of email is going to which account and whether you
can streamline this to make better use of your email
accounts. Follow the steps below:
1. Right click in an empty space on your desktop
screen area and choose "new folder"
2. Name this folder "Email Accounts"
3. Open up this folder and right click anywhere in
the folder screen area, choose "new Text Document"
4. Name this text document "Email Accounts Info"
5. Open up this new document and then systematically
go through your records and list EVERY email account
you have, including any free accounts supplied with
any affiliate programs you belong to.
Making a note of the following info:
Email account
URL to main login page
Login name and password
What are you using this account for? Be honest with
yourself, if you have no idea ... make a note, if it's
being used for too many different things ... make a note.
6. When you are finished your "Email Accounts Info" text
document should look something like this: (the following
example can also be used to help you decide which emails
should go to which accounts)
HOTMAIL
http://www.hotmail.com
flopsy/with222
Used for: 2 Safelists "names of safelists" .....
YAHOO
http://www.yahoo.com
flopsy/with222
Used for: FFA and Classified submissions
2ND YAHOO
http://www.yahoo.com
flopsy/with707
Used for Search Engine submissions
USA NET
http://www.usa.net
lopsy/setup833
Used for: 3 Safelists "names of safelists" ....
PRONTOMAIL
http://www.prontomail.com
loppity/blade474
Use for: Ezine subscription
MAIN ISP email
flounders/break6868
Used for: Affiliate Program details and commissions
7. Once you have sorted out the best use for each email
account, make sure that you take some time to set
your system up. You may have to change your email
address in some affiliate program, or unsubscribe
and then re-subscribe to certain Ezines, to get things
organized to your liking, don't be put off, it's worth
the extra work.
Finished?
Good, now you should have all of the details of your
email account documented on one text page, sitting
inside your "Email Accounts" folder placed on your
desktop screen.
8. Now you need to set up a few more folders to contain
certain important information using the following
guidelines.
For each folder needed ...
Open up your main "Email Accounts" Folder and right
click in an empty space, choose "New Folder" and
name them:
Payments In
Used to save all payment you receive by way of
commissions and/or your own website sales.
Payments Out
Used to save all payments you make for products,
services etc.
Software Registration Codes
Used to save details of the various unlock codes
for your software programs
Affiliate Programs Info
Used to save your initial sign up emails which
include your referral URL's, members login info
etc.
Financial
Used to save important financial doc's, such as
your eGold, Paypal and bank account info.
Domain & Web Hosting Info
Used to save email from your web host, domain
name registrations etc.
Complaints and Queries Resolved
Keep a record of any complaints or important
queries that you have resolved but think it
would be a good idea to keep records
Personal
Email worth saving that relate to personal
issues.
Ads for promoting programs
Used to save ad copy that some affiliate
programs supply you with from time to time.
Marketing & Advertising
Used to save any marketing material and
details of advertising and marketing sites
that you might be interested in visiting in
the near future.
Projects in Progress
Used to save emails for any large projects
that you are undertaking and have not yet
completed.
Search Engines and PPC confirmations
Used to save your Search Engine submission
confirmations so that you know when you
last submitted your site to a particular
Search Engine and which PPC accounts you
have set up.
Upgrades and Renewals
Save email for any upgrades or renewals that
might interest you in the future.
Ezines
Save all zines that you subscribe to and want
to save and read later.
That should give you enough to think about
next week I will show you how to save your
emails to these folders and more email
organizing tactics.
Warmest regards
Karen Baxter
